Synopsis

CHASING THE THUNDER is a high seas documentary following two Sea Shepherd captains as they adventure on a hundred-day chase of notorious illegal fishing vessel, The Thunder.

Wanted by Interpol and banned from fishing in the Antarctic, the Thunder had eluded capture for more than a decade, until Sea Shepherd decided to pursue the renegade converted trawler. The Thunder used gillnets to target toothfish, better known as Chilean sea bass, and had caught nearly 100 million dollars of the prized fish over the decade. The film captures the dangerous drama of the world’s longest maritime pursuit. From Captain Peter Hammerstedt of the Bob Barker spotting his target among the towering icebergs to boldly sending his crew members aboard the sinking Thunder to salvage any evidence, Chasing the Thunder takes the audience on an exhilarating ride to the furthest reaches of the planet. This high-adrenaline adventure has made worldwide headlines, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Netflix optioning the feature film rights of the story. Chasing the Thunder brings viewers aboard the Bob Barker and its sister ship, the Sam Simon, to experience this unforgettable historic chase.

CHASING THE THUNDER is produced by the Peabody award-winning Brick City TV Executive Producers Mark Benjamin and Marc Levin, with Laura Michalchyshyn and Robert Redford from Sundance Productions and Paul G. Allen from Vulcan Productions.

Set sail for heart-stopping action from the front lines as activists and scientists prepare to stare down poachers, tear up illegal fishing networks and bring the outlaws to justice.
