SYNOPSIS | With more than 20 executions meted out in the first six months of 1997, Texas set a pace for executions unrivaled in modern history. That year, the state shattered its own record for the highest incident of executions carried out since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976.

In THE EXECUTION MACHINE: TEXAS DEATH ROW, inmates speak candidly about their experiences and perspectives. They discuss their relationships with other inmates, their attitudes towards past deeds, their ways of coping with the probability of impending execution, and their own surprisingly varied opinions on capital punishment. The film focuses on three men executed during the course of filming, one of whom maintained his innocence into the final hours preceding his execution. It also includes interviews with correctional officers, victims’ family members, and the first surviving crime victim to witness an execution in Texas.
